The Institute of Development and Agricultural Economics has been closed as of 31st March 2023. However, research activities continue to take place and results were achieved throughout the year. The major ones are reported here.

Mekong River Village Project

Activities in the Mekong River Village Project (MRVP) continued during the  1st quarter of 2024. On 19 February, Prof Waibel gave a presentation at the Head Office of the Mekong River Commission (MRC) in Vientiane, Laos (see ppt file attached). The MRC is an international treaty based organization with a mandate to promote and coordinate the sustainable use of the water and related resources of the Mekong River (see photo 1) . The core functions of the MRC include river basin monitoring, flood and drought forecasting, data and information management, analysis and assessment, basin planning, dialogue and facilitation. It also carries out research on various issues related to the Mekong River. Prof. Waibel presented the 1st intermediate report of the MRVP. The meeting was well received and the MRC expressed great interest to collaborate with the MRVP. In particular it was envisaged to jointly organize the scientific conference of the project planned for the 1st half of 2025 and to be financed by the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS)
