Global Agrifood Supply Chain, EU Food Safety Standards and Small-Scale Vegetable Producers: The case of vegetable exports from Kenya. Project carried out in collaboration with ICIPE, Kenya. Sponsor: BMZ, Duration: 2005-2008.

Impact of shocks on vulnerability to poverty in Thailand and Vietnam- consequences for emerging economies. Project carried out in collaboration with the Universities of Göttingen and Frankfurt (in Germany) as well as Kasetsart University (KU) in Bangkok, Thailand and Centre of Agricultural Policy (CAP) in Hanoi, Vietnam. Duration 2006–2009.

External costs of pesticides in vegetable production in Kenya. PhD Project in collaboration with ICIPE, Nairobi, Kenya. Sponsor: German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). Duration 2007–2009.

Food security and poverty alleviation through valuation and governance of river fisheries in Cameroon and Nigeria. Project carried out in collaboration with World Fish Centre, Penang, Malaysia. Sponsor: BMZ, Duration: 2006-2009.

Economic study on the role of information in the transition of horticultural firms in adopting organic horticulture practices and establishment of a public research private sector research network in organic horticulture in Germany. Duration 2004–2006. Sponsor: Bundesanstalt für Ernährung und Landwirtschaft (BLE).

Study and Task Force on the Health Benefits of IPM Programs and their consequences for agricultural and health policies in Nicaragua and other countries in Central America together with the Ministry of Health of Nicaragua and other regional partner. Duration 2004–2005. Sponsor: European Commission (EC).

Impact Assessment of new production technologies and farmer training in cotton in Asia. Sponsored by EU/FAO Regional Office Bangkok. Duration 2002-2004. This project is carried out as a network of socioeconomists in six Asian countries (Bangladesh, China, India, Pakistan, Vietnam, Philippines) and with the Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics, Kasetsart University, Bangkok, Thailand (collaborator: Dr. Suwanna Praneetvatakul). Cooperation on bioeconomic modeling with the University of California at Berkeley, Chinese National Training and Research Centre Beijing and FAO Regional program on IPM in cotton in Asia. Sponsor: EU/FAO.

Development of an Internationalization and international student recruitment concept for the University of Hannover and to study the Economic Benefits of Higher Education and International Migration. This project is in connection with my assignment as the university’s Director of International Affairs. Duration: 2000–2003.

Environmental Policy Reform in Development Countries: the case of pesticides, in collaboration with research institutions in Benin, Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Mali, Zimbabwe, Thailand, Pakistan, Costa Rica; funded by GTZ, Germany, FAO/UNEP and The World Bank. Duration: 1994–2001.

The Economics of well irrigation for vegetable production in the province of Lahj, Yemen; funded by GTZ. Duration 1997–2001.

Pesticide Policy Reform in Pakistan. Study, training workshops and policy meetings, sponsored by UNDP and conducted in collaboration with the Global IPM Facility of FAO and Department of Economics, School of Oriental and African Studies, London University. Sponsor UNDP. Duration: 2000–2001.

Research activities are being continued to finalize a book on agro-environmental policy reform in Pakistan.

Upland Agricultural Development in Vietnam, in collaboration with IRRI, funded by BMZ, 1999-2003. Cooperation with Dr. Sushil Pandey, Economist, International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) Philippines. Research activities are being continued preparing a book on the role of upland rice for food security.

Economics of Post Harvest Development in Vietnam, in collaboration with IFPRI, funded by BMZ. Duration 1999–2001.

The Economics of Desert Locust Control in Africa. Sponsored by GTZ. Duration 1998- 2000.

Organization and Management of the World Bank (WB) and Interamerican Development Bank (IDB) Pavilions at the World EXPO 2000 at Hannover. The pavilions displayed themes on development projects in Asia Africa and Latin America. The task was to manage a group of international students of the University of Hannover who had to explain WB and IDB development concepts and projects to EXPO visitors. Duration 2000.

The extension of Cost Benefit Analysis in Irrigation Investments: an explorative study from Rajasthan in India. Sponsor German Development Bank (Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau). Duration 1996–1997.
