Overview of major issues of economic development and poverty reduction, implications of economic growth theories for development the economics of poverty, the role of agriculture in economic development - Overview the theoretical concepts of environmental economics: public goods and market failure, public sector solutions (Pigou) and private solutions (Coase) to externatilitis.

Erwartete Vorkenntnisse: Modules of the first 4 terms, fair command of English language: The course can be taken by students of economics and related fields (e.g. horticulture , engineering sociology, political science). It requires a basic understanding of welfare theory and investment analysis tools. Students should be familiar with the procedure of calculating investment criteria such as net present value and the internal rate of return. The exam students are free to choose the language - English or German.
